چکیده

Given proprieties of tool-workpiece materials, the experimental model of milling stress measurement is set as boundary condition for finite element analysis during milling process. The residual stress is the main reason of workpiece deformation. It is analyzed and computed using the finite element method. The idea of living and dead element is employed to model the material removal process while considering the impact effect when tool cutting workpiece. A small time step is used while the tool is contacting with workpiece to improve the accuracy of the simulation. The simulation results conform with experimental results.

Application of Pulse Method to Incremental Slitting Measurement of Residual Stresses in Laminated Composites

In this research, the incremental slitting method was employed to determine throughthickness residual stress profile of a carbon/epoxy laminate. The method involves measuring strains at the back surface of the stressed specimen, while a narrow slit is cut by a CNC milling machine progressively from the top surface of the specimen. "Pulse Method" was selected as the computational approach for th...

Evaluation of quenching process on low cycle fatigue life for cylinder head

Due to the complex geometry and thermos-mechanical loading, cylinder heads are the most challenging parts among all parts engines. They must endure cyclic thermal and mechanical loading throughout their lifetime. Cast aluminum alloys are normally quenched after solution treatment process to improve aging responses. Rapid quenching can lead to high residual stress. Residual stress is one of the ...

Investigating the Effect of Joint Geometry of the Gas Tungsten Arc Welding Process on the Residual Stress and Distortion using the Finite Element Method

Although a few models have been proposed for 3D simulation of different welding processes, 2D models are still more effective in design goals, thus more popular due to the short-time analysis. In this research, replacing "time" by the "third dimension of place", the gas tungsten arc welding process was simulated by the finite element method in two dimensions and in a short time with acceptable ...
